Double Glazing

  • We use Pilkington K Glass™ - the UK’s leading thermal glass brand, which  has become the trusted solution for meeting Building Regulations concerning energy efficiency in the UK.

Pilkington K Glass™ forms the inner pane of an energy-efficient double glazed unit, such as Pilkington energiKare™.

The coating reflects heat back into the room whilst also letting in free heat from the sun, known as passive solar gain. These low-emissivity glazing products helps your projects to easily achieve a higher Window Energy Rating (WER); therefore exceeding the latest energy-saving Building Regulations.

    • Improves energy efficiency of homes

    • The ideal choice to reduce energy consumption

    • Meets and exceeds the latest Building Regulations concerning energy efficiency for homes when combined in an Insulating Glass Unit with a suitable window frame

    • Saves you money on heating bills as less energy is required to maintain a comfortable temperature

    • Reduces unsightly internal condensation

    • Allows you to extend the glazed area of a building without increasing heat loss

    • Helps windows achieve the highest Window Energy Ratings (WER) possible.

Triple Glazing

  • Pilkington energiKare™ Triple

With an abundance of window styles, types and materials to choose from, achieving the best performance from the glazing is extremely important. From new homes to older traditional buildings, our Pilkington energiKare™ Triple delivers the best possible energy efficiency surpassing the best performing double glazed Insulating Glass Units (IGUs).

    The importance of energy-efficient glazing

Advances in technology have made windows a larger contributor to the energy efficiency of new homes. Government regulations now demand more stringent levels of energy performance in buildings. Pilkington energiKare™ Triple surpasses all current guidelines and foreseeable future legislation helping to save money and energy, whilst reducing the environmental impact of carbon emissions and keeping homes warm.

    • Exceeds the score necessary for Window Energy Rating A++ band performance levels

    • High performance triple glazed units optimise the balance between U-value, the thermal performance of the glass, and g-value, the proportion of solar energy through the glass to retain the warmth within the home

    • Where there are suitable framing systems, it can be used in existing homes as a glass-only upgrade

    • Capable of meeting the requirements of Passiv Haus

    • Designed to achieve high solar gain and low carbon SAP scores, allowing larger glazed areas without compromising the energy efficiency of new homes

    • All Pilkington energiKare™ Triple glazed units can be supplied with warm edge spacers, for even better energy efficiency and reduced risk of internal condensation

    • The middle pane is toughened on all Pilkington energiKare™ Triple glazed units as standard, to eliminate the risk of thermal breakage

    • Available with both hard or soft coat low-emissivity technologies

    • Incorporates products from the Pilkington K Glass™ or Pilkington Optitherm™ Ranges.

Thermal Glazing

  • Over 25% of the heat from homes and public buildings escapes through the glazing so, with the rising costs of energy and increasing environmental awareness, more emphasis than ever is being placed on ways to save energy in all types of domestic, commercial and public buildings.

Energy-efficient glass can play an important role in enhancing thermal insulation of homes. By replacing single glazed window glass with thermally insulated windows containing Pilkington energiKare™ double glazing units, the amount of energy lost can be reduced by up to 75% and heating bills lowered by up to 20% each year. Significant savings can also be achieved by upgrading old double glazed windows which were installed before regulations were significantly tightened in 2002.

  • Our Pilkington K Glass™ is a unique energy-efficient glass - one of the UK’s best-selling low-emissivity glazing products.

Its primary function is to prevent heat escaping through the windows and return heat back into the home. It allows more light and heat from the sun to enter properties resulting in so-called passive solar gain; free heat from the sun.

  • Heat loss is normally measured by the thermal transmittance or U-value, usually expressed in W/m2K. In its most basic terms, the lower the U-value, the greater the thermal insulation, however, the amount of free heat energy from the sun, the solar gain or g-value can also have a big impact. Window Energy Ratings or WERs, which take account of solar gain, were introduced in 2006 and they provide a good indicator of how energy-efficient windows for homes can be.

The Window Energy Ratings Scheme is based on a scale of A+ through to G, with A+ rated windows being the most energy-efficient.

Obscure Glazing

  • Our decorative glass is very versatile; it allows total freedom in design and can be customised to fulfil any trade requirements.

  • Our range of decorative products comprises transparent or translucent glass such as screen printed glass, laminated glass with tinted or white translucent interlayer, acid etched glass, texture glass, or fully opaque products such as enamelled glass, mirrors, and reflective spandrel panels.

Tinted Glazing

Noise Control Glazing

  • No matter where it originates, from railways, aircraft or factories, noise is all around. Future trend research suggests that traffic and noise in general will only get worse.

The careful and considered selection of glass can be crucial in helping to reduce noise level and meet noise requirements.

  • The highest noise insulation is achieved using an acoustic laminated glass. Glass controls noise by: reflecting the noise back towards the source, and absorbing the noise energy within the glass.

We can improve the sound insulation of glass in different ways - increasing the thickness of the pane, using laminated glass on its own or within an Insulating Glass Unit (IGU) - the larger the gap between the panes, the better the insulation.

The best performance is however obtained when using an acoustic laminated glass such as our  Pilkington Optiphon™ range.

Safety Glazing

  • For projects requiring total reassurance of greater safety and security without compromising levels of natural daylight, we offer a range of glass products.

Demanding safety legislation has highlighted critical areas where modern safety glazing must comply with the required safe practice, especially in commercial projects. Innovations in the development of safety/security glass now ensures people can be protected from personal injury or in the most extreme cases, buildings can be protected from various forms of attack.

We offer a wide range of sophisticated products that meet these ever-increasing demands, without compromising on the design criteria of natural light and visibility.

  • Using the right type of glass for security applications is not enough to ensure the necessary resistance to severe loads. Since the glass can behave differently in different framing systems, it is imperative to combine high performance glazing with high quality framing systems to achieve the level of protection required.

All of our products are available in toughened or laminated glass for safety and security requirements, and can be combined with other benefits such as noise control.

Solar Reflective Glazing

  • Solar control glass can be an attractive feature of a building whilst at the same time minimising, or even eliminating the need for an air conditioning system, reducing running costs of the building and saving energy.

In hot temperatures solar control glass can be used to minimise solar heat gain and help control glare. In colder temperatures it can be used to balance solar control with high levels of natural light. Solar control glass can be specified for any situation where excessive solar heat gain is likely to be an issue, for example - large facades, glass walkways, atria and conservatories.

  • Glass manages solar heat radiation by three mechanisms: reflectance, transmittance and absorptance.

    1. Reflectance – the proportion of solar radiation reflected back into the atmosphere.

    2. Direct transmittance – the proportion of solar radiation transmitted directly through the glass.

    3. Absorptance – the proportion of solar radiation absorbed by the glass.

Whatever the specification, we have the perfect glazing solution for all of your trade project requirements.
